Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 2

In this video

Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2 is 22 years separated from his first piano concerto. He began working on the concerto in 1878 and finished it in 1881 in Pressbaum near Vienna. He wrote to Clara Schumann: “I want to tell you that I have written a very small piano concerto with a very small and pretty scherzo.” Ironically, he was describing a huge piece.[1] This concerto is dedicated to his teacher, Eduard Marxsen. The first performance of the concerto was in November of 1881, with Brahms himself as the soloist. The concerto was an immediate success and Brahms performed it in many cities across Europe.

Composer: Johannes Brahms
Artists: Vincenzo Maltempo (piano), Mitteleuropa Orchestra, Marco Guidarini (conductor)
