Brahms: Symphony No. 4

In this video

Symphony No. 4 is Brahms last symphony. Brahms began working on it in Mürzzuschlag and then in the Austro-Hungarian Empire just a year after completing Symphony No. 3. The symphony premiered in Meiningen, Germany in on October 2nd, 1885 with Brahms himself conducting. The symphony is rich in allusions, most notably to various Beethoven compositions. The symphony may well have been inspired by the play Antony and Cleopatra, which Brahms had been researching at the time.

Composer: Johannes Brahms
Artists: Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Jaap van Zweden (conductor)
