The Minuetto from the Sonata in E Minor by George Frideric Handel, performed by the San Francisco Early Music ensemble Voices of Music. Live, HD video from the Great Artists Series, January, 2010. Featuring Hanneke van Proosdij, voice flute; William Skeen, baroque cello, and David Tayler, baroque guitar. Though some scholars have questioned the attribution of the sonata, the minuet is an arrangement of one of Handel’s works for harpsichord, and it was common for both composers and publishers to continuously revise and arrange compositions. The andante bass part traces an extended series of interlocking seventh chords, which are then filled out by the guitar, and the cello adds a few more harmonies at the cadences.
